Welcome to the Zhao lab at UTHSA!

BRCA1 plays crucial roles in maintaining genome stability via its interaction networks, and mutations in  BRCA1 engender a high risk of developing cancers in various organs, including breast and ovarian. We are interested in understanding  the mechanisms that underlie BRCA1 dependent processes and their contributions to tumor suppression and therapeutic resistance. Such information garnered from these endeavors will provide actionable information to evaluate the pathogenicity of BRCA mutations, to explain the basis of innate and acquired drug resistance, and will identify targets for the development of new cancer therapeutics.
